The company

A diverse public body, with a demanding training remit.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is an agency of the Scottish Government Justice Department, operating 13 custodial establishments across Scotland. Its ‘mylo’ platform is the one-stop shop for all training and development in support of the SPS college.

After a competitive tender process in 2021, SPS awarded Cortexa a 3-year contract to migrate and upgrade its ageing Totara platform, and resolve the challenges of running on an outdated version.

Migration, upgrade and futureproofing

The challenge

An outdated platform, and no room for disruption.

SPS needed a rigorous, low-risk migration onto a modern Totara version, delivered by a partner proven through open competition.

Running on an outdated version

SPS’s existing Totara platform was overdue an upgrade, limiting what staff and administrators could do with it.

A rigorous procurement process

Any new partner had to be selected and proven through a competitive tender, not a quick switch.

Migration risk

Years of staff training records and content needed to move across without loss or disruption to the SPS college.

A genuinely diverse workforce

Staff across 13 establishments needed a platform flexible enough to adapt to very different roles and needs.

The solution

A smooth migration onto a modern, future-ready platform.

Cortexa planned and delivered the upgrade with custom solutions tailored to SPS’s processes and reporting needs.
