Merchant Training course provides the foundation for the Howarth Timber Group

As a leading UK Merchant, the Howarth Timber Group has been successfully trading and expanding their reach for over 178 years. Through their network of 30 timber and builders’ merchant branches, they pride themselves of providing the widest product range supplied by highly trained and motivated staff. Offering the ideal combining of quality products supplied by experts dedicated to service excellence.

“Central to maintaining this commitment is our programme of continual training”, said Howarth’s Commercial Director Paul Bullivant. “Education away from branches is at premium so the online solution of elearning courses is perfect. It is rare to find industry specific training without the costs of commissioning it ourselves, but the Wood Campus – Award In Timber Merchanting was ideal.  We are making it the foundation of our TimberPro Training academy which builds on the online modules with supplier visits and training.  Knowledgeable staff are central to us being able to give our customers the best possible service by making their lives easier, saving them time and making their businesses more profitable”.

The Award in Timber Merchanting course provides approximately 39 hours of training across 18 modules backed by required reading and project work.  This fully accredited course covers all you need to know to get started in a Timber Merchant. Successful completion gives learners a Level 3 Award in Timber Merchanting, as well as significant Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) towards the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Merchant Supplies.

Howarth Timber access their online training on their own bespoke LMS provided by Cortexa. The same course is available to BMF members through the BMF Campus or independently from Wood Campus.
